Wangeci
11th June 2009, in Video Projects (9 Comments)
Finally finished editing the Stan video (see “It’s A Wrap”), and here it is:
It’s a pseudo-homage to all the sci-fi dramas with hokey computer interfaces I watched when I was tiny and impressionable (read geeky jokes about computer usability representation in movies here and here – I only broke a few rules, ha!), and it’s my first time to actually TRY and include some sort of mini-narrative within a 3 to 4 minute promo.
Does it work? You tell me – feedback is always welcome.
Big thanks to Lisa Forsberg and everyone at Penya Africa for throwing ideas at me over a 3-day shoot (whew!) and to Stan, Wangeci and the rest of the cast for being cool about wearing costumes and running around looking serious.

I liked the video man! It works on very many levels. The story is solid, the sci-fi graphics work, and the lighting is more than superb. What i see in this video is a director who is an artist and knows the importance of visuals, acting, story, and not just jigglng asses to move on a plot. my only critique is that the bad guys (the jamaaz) entry should have been more dramatic and sophisticated..i’m thinking Minority Report. I really did not sense them as a real threat till the end of the video which by the way had a killer ending! What camera did you use?

I have to disagree with rags there, jiggling asses have their place in this world. Long live the rump shakers!

Its really cool. well done! Wish you used a map of kenya though!
though who’s to say how many wangeci’s there are in the US?

Thanks everyone!
KK – that map is fictional, just a bunch of shapes I drew on
the fly. What puzzles me is that you’re the third person to
ask if that’s a map of the US.

I’m blown away Jim C. by your talent, an ispiration it is to see greatness birthed in the midst of chaos in our country. All the best in all you do! Our eyes on you.
