Here’s the first video from Just A Band‘s coming-soon second album – 82. Shot it two weeks ago (had fun using a dolly for the first time – the Kenya Grip Company, very cool!), quickie edit and grading.

Finally finished editing the Stan video (see “It’s A Wrap”), and here it is:

It’s a pseudo-homage to all the sci-fi dramas with hokey computer interfaces I watched when I was tiny and impressionable (read geeky jokes about computer usability representation in movies here and here – I only broke a few rules, ha!), and it’s my first time to actually TRY and include some sort of mini-narrative within a 3 to 4 minute promo.

Does it work? You tell me – feedback is always welcome.

Big thanks to Lisa Forsberg and everyone at Penya Africa for throwing ideas at me over a 3-day shoot (whew!) and to Stan, Wangeci and the rest of the cast for being cool about wearing costumes and running around looking serious.

I discovered yesterday that the Vuka campaign (see the “Vuka – What Went Down” post) won the Best Campaign of the Year at the Marketing Society of Kenya’s awards. COOL!

Those of you who live (or have lived) in Nairobi will probably enjoy going through 24 Nairobi’s website. In their words:

“The 24 Nairobi project is intended as a showcase of a modern African city through the eyes of its own photographers. This is an alternative, innovative, realistic and professional African perspective. All the photographers reside in Nairobi and grew up or now call Nairobi “home”…”

Of particular note (to me) are photos by Boniface Mwangi – award-winning photojournalist – who captured a side of Nairobi that most of us haven’t encountered (or would want to encounter, for that matter). I believe the gallery opening at the Museum will be held on the 24th of this month – more details on the website: http://www.24nairobi.com

The good people at AfriGadget thought they’d share my DIY cardboard lights on their site (thanks, guys!).

It’s actually a very interesting blog, with lots of innovative DIY ideas by our fellow Africans. We’re not only about drought and AIDS, it seems.
